Re: Un-fair Tourism
Enjoyed all youtbue videos and specially appreciate the pumpkin curry lesson
Yes when we go to other countries when we get fed up of their food, next we try Indian food to understand that is not our taste. Surprisingly Malay food is somewhat closer to our taste though they are bit sweet than our chilli mixed spicy taste.
Yes , Sri Lankan food is now understood and just enjoy this authentic pumpkin curry of SL

Kith,
Were you in the aviation technical section or worked at times in Sri Lankan Catering section?
Anyway, please share your cooking and inspire all the forum members who still cannot survive in the wild alone without their wives!

Re: Un-fair Tourism
Yet the cheap politicians view of Indian tourists was positioned in general public's mind. Now these Cheap Politicians have to eat their own words...

The Top 14 of Sri Lankan Food
Centuries ago westerners got a whiff of this wealth of spices and were instantly hooked to it, so much so that they stayed there for centuries and spread the taste throughout the world.
Even today, Sri Lankan food is one of the reasons why travellers from across the world are forced to elongate their journeys to taste the best that Sri Lanka’s kitchens have to offer.
Here is a list of those 14 Sri Lankan food items you can’t afford to miss.
The List
How did " Pol Roti " miss the cut ?

පැනෑටියා
Once I found a wriggling insect like cockroach in the sands in Kalutara beach.. I cleaned the sand form its body and held it up. A security guard of the Hotel said that is " Panatiya " and its living in the sand.
Next morning when I was walking on sand with my child I found a team of young boys digging the sand and collecting " Panatiyas" in a bucket. When I asked them about it they say they make a tasty curry with that.. Later I had " Panatiya" curry with toasted bread with the boys...
Surprisingly many Sri Lankans do not know that some Sri Lankans eat " insects"...Just ask from someone living near by beach from Dehiwala to Kalutara.. they know about this food..
You living at Rathgama may have not heard or seen this..

Now පැනෑටියා, I got it.
Yes, I know this and it is in the sand.
Sad part is when the water is receding their location is revealed creating a fork in the water.
So, boys can easily dig the place and retrieve it.
Never eaten but I know some love this.

Dried Matti (muscles) are delicious when cooked like a meat curry. When going to Wilpattu as a kid, our last stop was Puttalam market and Matti was on top of the list for us kids.
Have you guys eaten Kahata Aembula ?

A selfie video by a Singaporean visitor who came last year . By watching this, I think these 2 visitors didn't get the real Sri Lankan experience. The itinerary could have been more and more fascinating than this if properly planned. Our marketing people in tourism should show up more, to make them visit again.

Re: Un-fair Tourism
Early months of this year shows the trend. Sometimes China might takeover India as our number one market in this year itself . Slowing down Chinese economy is the only hindrance, otherwise this trend could turn in to a tourism Tsunami for us( A warmly welcomed one !)

Sorry just saw this....
It is the fruit of the Kahata tree. It has to be plucked as petals of the flower is falling with the fruit just forming and cooked the same day. It is cooked similar to the Ala Kola or Miyana Kola Ambuleh cooked in Kandyan and Sabaragamuwa areas, some make it with Umbalakadeh, with or without it is simply delicious and a oh so unique Srilankan taste. Rarely it is available at small family run buth kadays , One such Kaday where you can eat it during season (May-June) is on the Haputale road, at the bridge over Hirikatu Oya about a mile past Belihul Oya about 500 meters before the Samanalawewa turnoff. A bath in the clear water flowing right down from Horton plains is of course a must before lunch. You can get your feet exfoliated by swarms of nibbling fish. They also have homemade Kithulpiti most year round.
