This is why Lord Buddha advised to study sorrow, understand the way its hidden inside the worldly joys and to be aware of the danger.
So, my friend, be careful of worldly joys. Do not get attached to those. At the same time, do not lose hope when sorrow comes to you one day. Comprehend the fact that joy and sorrow are two sides of the same coin - carrying the same value...
Therefore, a person who understands this reality will look at joy or sorrow in Equanimity (Upeksha)

Also note, that to be able to comprehend and develop equanimity, you have to learn bhavana. There is no other way. Mere intellectual comprehension is nothing. The Sattipattana sutta, is the perfect scientific road map to achieve that.

Equanimity is also a 'Quasi' Nibbhana state, where an effort is needed to keep the mind in that state.
Real Nibbhana doesn't need such effort as Buddha explains in Ogatharana Suthra...
