ශ්‍රී ලංකා ජනගහනයෙන් සියයට 75ක් වන සිංහලයන් ඉපැරැණි නැගෙනහිර ඉන්දියාවෙන් පැවතෙන්නන් බව පර්යේෂණයකින් අනාවරණය වී ඇතැයි නිව් ඉන්දියන් එක්ස්ප්‍රස් පුවත් සේවය වාර්තා කරයි.
සිංහලයන් ඉන්දියාවේ ඔඩිසා හා ඛෙංගාලි කලාපයෙන් පැවැතෙන්නද යන්න පිළිබඳ සෙවීමට මීට වසර තුනකට පෙර ශ්‍රී ලාංකික නියෝජිතයකු ඉන්දියාවේ සහාය ඉල්ලීමත් සමඟ කරන ලද පර්යේෂණවලින් මෙම කරුණු අනාවරණය වී ඇත.
සිංහල ජනතාවගේ මූලාරම්භය පිළිබඳ  ශ්‍රී ලංකා ඉතිහාසය පිළිබඳ ප්‍රධානතම ලිඛිත වාර්තාව වන ‘මහාවංශය‘ යේද වැදගත් කොටසක් ඇතැයි ද එය වත්මන් සොයාගැනීම් හා සැසෙඳන බව ද මෙහිදි අනාවරණය වී ඇත.
පුරාණෝක්තිවලට අනුව සිංහල ජනතාවගේ පැවත එන්නේ විජය රජුගෙනි. කි්‍රස්තු පූර්ව 543 දී  වයඹ දිග ඉන්දියාවේ සිට › ලංකාව වෙත ගමන් කරන විජය ඇතුළු පිරිස පළමු සිංහල නගරය තම්බපණ්‚ යනුවෙන් නම් කරන ලදි.
ඉන්දියාවේ කුප්‍රකට අජන්තා ලෙන් ගුහාවල ඇති සිතුවමක ද විජය රජු සිංහල නගරයකට යන අයුරු දැක්වෙන බව පර්යේෂණ වාර්තාවලින් අනාවරණය වී ඇත.
විජය රජු යනු ගුජරාටයේ සිහපුර පාලකයා වූ සිංහබාහුගේ පුත්‍රයාය. සිංහබාහුගේ මව නැගෙනහිර ඉන්දියාවේ රජු වූ කාලිංග රජුගේ දුවය.  සිංහයකු ඇය පැහැරගත් බව පුරාවෘත්තවල සඳහන් වෙයි.
කෙසේ නමුත් පවතින පුරාණෝක්ති එසේත් නැතිනම් ඉතහාස කතා නිශ්චිත සිද්ධාන්තයකින් හෝ සාක්ෂිවලින් සත්‍ය හෝ අසත්‍ය බවට ඔප්පු කර නැත.
විජය රජුගේ පරම්පරාව පිළිබඳ තොරතුරු වාර්තා වුවද ඒවා සත්‍ය හෝ අසත්‍ය හෝ බවට සනාථ කළ හැකි කිසවක් තවමත් සොයාගෙන නැත. එසේ නමුත් වත්මන් ඛෙංගාලි හා ඔඩිෂා ජනකොටස් හා සිංහල ප්‍රජා අතර සමනතා දක්නට ඇතැයි එම වාර්තා සඳහන් කරයි.
සිංහල සම්ප්‍රදාය තුළ සිංහයාට සුවිශේෂී ස්ථානයක් හිමිව ඇත. සිංහ සංකේතය බොහෝ ස්ථානවලදී භාවිත වී ඇත. සිංහල ප්‍රජාව අතර මෙන්ම ඔඩිසා හා ඛෙංගාල ප්‍රදේශවල ජනතාව අතරද සිංහයාට සුවිශේෂී ස්ථානයක් හිමිව ඇති බවත් සංකේතයක් ලෙස භාවිත වන සංජිව් සන්යාල් රචිත ‘ ඕෂන් චර්න් : හව් ද ඉන්දියන් ඕෂන් ෂේප්ඩ් හියුමන් හිස්ටි්‍ර‘  කෘතියේ සඳහන් වේ.
ඔඩිසා හි ජනතාව නරසිම්හා (අඩ මනුෂ්‍ය හා අඩ සිංහ විෂ්ණු දෙවියන්) වන්දනාමාන කරන අතර ඛෙංගාලි වැසියෝ සිංහයකු මත නැග සිටින දුර්ගා දෙවියන්ට වන්දනාමාන කරති. › ලංකා ජාතික ධජයේ සිංහයා සිටීමත් ඔඩිෂා හා ඛෙංගාල ප්‍රදේශවල ආගමික සංකේතයක් ලෙස සිංහයා භාවිත වීමටත් ඇත්තේ එකම සංස්කෘතික මූලාරම්භයක් යැයි ද සංජීව් සන්යාල් තම කෘතියෙන් පෙන්වා දී ඇත.
කෙසේ වෙතත් පුරාණ කතාවලට වැඩි යමක් මේ සබඳතාවලදී සොයාගත හැකිව තිබේ. සිංහල ජනගහනයෙන් සියයට 25.41කට ඛෙංගාල දායකත්වය තිඛෙන බව ශ්‍රී  ලංකා ජනහනයේ ජානමය සබඳතා (‘ජෙනටික් ඇෆිනිටීස් ඔෆ් ශ්‍රී ලන්කන් පොපියුලේෂන්ස්‘, ගෞතම් කුමර් ක්ෂාතී්‍රය)   නැමැති සංජීව්ගේ අධ්‍යනයේදී අනාවරණය වී ඇත. භාෂාමය වශයෙන්ද සබඳතා තිඛෙන ඉතිහාසඥයන් විසින් මෙම පර්යේෂණවලදී අනාවරණය කරගෙන ඇති අතර සිංහල භාෂාව කතා කිරීමේ ඉන්දු ආර්ය මූලආරම්භ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ද එම පර්යේෂණවලදී කරුණු අනාවරණය වී ඇත.
ඛෙංගාල භාෂාවේ සංවර්ධනය සම්බන්දයෙන් සිංහල කතනයේ ඉන්දු ආර්යය අන්තර්ගතය පිළිබඳව සුනිති කුමාර් චැතර්ජි දක්වා ඇත්තේ මෙවන් අදහසකි.
‘ඉන්දු ආර්ය භාෂාව සිලෝන් වෙත රැනෙ යන්නට ඇත්තේ බටහිර ඉන්දීය වෙරළ තීරයේ සිටින පිරිස්ය. ක්‍රිස්තු පූර්ව 3 වැනි සියවසේ සිට සිලෝන දේශය හා මගධය අතර සබඳකම් පැවැතු‚. එම සබඳතා පැවැතියේ ඛෙංගාලය ඔස්සේය. ඛෙංගාලය හා සිලෝන් අතර පැවැති සබඳතා සම්බන්ධයෙන් ඛෙංගාල සාහිත්‍යයේ සඳහන් වේ. ‘
එපමණක් නොව ඔඩිෂා, ඛෙංගාලය හා ශ්‍රී ලංකාව අතර වෙළෙඳාම් ද සිදු වී ඇත. › ලංකාව කාලිංග දේශයෙන් අලින් ආනයනය කරන විට ඔවුන් මෙරටින් මුතු හා රිදී ආනයනය කර ඇත. වාර්තාවලට අනුව කි්‍රස්තු පූර්ව පස්වැනි සියවස වනට මෙම කලාප දෙක අතර ශක්තිමත් ආර්ථීක සබඳතා පැවැති බවට අනාවරණය වන අතර එම වෙළෙඳ හා වා‚ජ සබඳතා කලාප දෙකේ සමාජ, සංස්කෘතික හා දේශපාලන කටයුතුවලට ද බලපෑමක් සිදු කර ඇත.
ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ජනාවාසවලට ජනගහනයට විවිධ ජාතීන්වල බලපෑම් සිදුව ඇත. පෘතුගි්‍රසි, ලන්දේසි හා බි්‍රතාන්‍ය ආක්‍රමණය කිරීම්ද ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ජනගහනයට බලපෑ ඇත. දකුණු ඉන්දියාවෙන් මෙරටට පැමි‚ දෙමළ ජාතිකයන් ද ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ වත්මන් සිංහල ජානමය සංයුතියට බලපෑ ඇතැයි කරන අධ්‍යයන වාර්තා සඳහන් කරයි.
කෙසේ නමුත් සිංහල ජනතාව ඛෙංගාලි හා ඔඩිෂා කලාපවල ජීවත්වන පිරිස් සමඟ සංස්කෘතික, ජානමය හා භාෂාමය සබඳතා සමානකම් හා සබඳතා ඛෙදා ගන්නා බව කරන පර්යේෂණවලින් අනාවරණය වූ නමුත් එම කරුණු බොහෝ පිරිස් ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කරත
       නිව් ඉන්දියන් එක්ස්ප්‍රස් ඇසුරිනි

(Is it really matter to know where we came from as long as when we are not sure of where we are heading now).

There is a Hill tribe in Chittagong in Bangladesh known as SINHA tribe and they too believe that their forefather was a great Lion.
(And many Bengali words are similar to Sinhala too).

It's a known history by many that there were 3 groups of people lived in the past.

1. Those who came from southern India lived in Northern area of the Island
2. Those who came from Northern India/Bengali settled down in Eastern half of the Island and started a great civilization.
3. But the most ancient were the 'Yakkhas' living in the central and southern regions of the Island. They were the greatest worriers in the country.


The problem is most of our historians are still stuck inside some kind of box and too lethargic to examine beyond a certain limit.

I heard they have now started some excavations near Ampara; am sure most will be astonished by the discoveries there.

We can be happy to have a written history.

When British rulers were excavating in India the Indians had no answers for the queries but Mahawamsa..

Emperor Ashoka was not known to Indians but was present in SL history.. Thus the province of Vihara or Bihar and its capital Patna or Patali was discovered...

Anyway I heard Umaria Sinhawansa got her surname from Indonesian father...Even the terms like Dharmarja or Lumpini is is common in Thai Land... We are all connected in Asia...

On the subject of language, many linguistic experts believe that "Hela Basa" was something that was endowed to us from outer space.
(Murmurs of Earth by Carl Sagan).

So, it is a possibility that we may have come from totally a different place altogether.
(If someone manages to intercept the Voyager, then they will come to know that the word "Ayu-Bo-Wan" is now being widely used by the earthlings).  

Today, we will hear the murmurs of bulls for a change.

What I highlighted were 2 things.

1) Similarity between languages in the whole South East Asian Region going as far as Malaysia Indonesia starting from Afghanistan.

2) Common usage of 'Lion' in making up names in the region.

"Hela Basa" evolved from Pali.

Pali was an artificial language created for a very specific purpose. That's why it looks very 'Alien' to some thinkers.

Why the alphabet of Malaysia is Latin alphabet ? All the others have their own alphabet...

However the alphabet of Sinhalese is far superior in any of the Asians ( and better than Latin )...

Japanese alphabet has the same vowels of Latin.. Tamil and Hindi is closer to Sinhalese..

Yet ඈ (aa) is not available in any of these... so for many languages there is no difference between කාම and කෑම

However Sinhalese alphabet had no F and it was added ෆ


Other languages ( alphabets ) have not found what is lacking and added , yet sinhala has continued growing...





Tamil has added few letters like ශ්‍රී , ක්‍ෂ , හ , ශ later...



Yet the Latin alphabet has not grown by adding what is lacking...
