People's Bank is another giant State Owned bank. It was competing neck-to-neck with BOC for a long period. However unlike BOC, there are violent fluctuations in the trend.

Even though these are not listed entities one cannot complete analyzing banks and fiance field without these two giants.

PAT was also subject to violent fluctuations

People's Bank is the biggest share holder and own almost 75% of PLC.N and in return is the Grand Father of PIN.N.

In 2011 almost 1/3rd of the loan Portfolio belonged to Gold Pawning.

One amazing factor in Sri Lanka is the trust its citizens have on State Owned Enterprises. Recently I was passing Peradeniya Gannoruwa agri centre. I was surprised to see the number of people flocked to by snacks, fruit drinks etc.

Amidst of this much of Private Schools mushrooming, I was surprised to learn that 700,000 + students sat for O/Ls. There are many International (private) schools where the number of students in a class is less than 20 and only one class for a grade. State owned schools are flooded with many classes overwhelming 40 students.

I am surprised to see the hotel chain owned by SL military and how successful they are. I was surprised to see the Chinese, African and Asian students who pay higher boarding fees around Ratmalana to attend to Kotalawela Defense University...

Banking sector is not exempted. The two leading banks which the Blind IMF often asked to privatize shows and proves the business strength they master with performance.

Kith... When the Profit and Revenue is huge the simple individual losses become immaterial. Thus State owned institutes become safe heavens for looters... agree with you... and I believe the same prevent them getting listed as it improves the level of transparency...

Yesterday I received a SMS

Lotus road closed for traffic from Ceramic Junction due to a protest by state bank employees-Ada Derana

Later I found its due to employees of People's Bank. However I immediately surfed Lanka C News and upto now no updates on that.

It surprised me as Lanka C News used to publish more articles on People's Bank than any other Bank.

I noticed MTD Walkers ( KAPI.N) was in big financial mess ,when I last looking at the financial reports.

Other than issue of  giving a Rs 10 Billion to a "related party" of the Bank,  unless the construction boom starts soon the nature and size of this loan is rather risky at this stage.  However, if /when construction booms starts again ( when ever), KAPI might have he capacity recover. But right now it is at risky stage with huge debt.
Question is on what basis was this granted? Personal  or logical ?
