With the tragedy that took place in Kolkata causing over 18 deaths and 100's of injuries there is a serious doubt about the quality of safety measures and standards maintained by the Indian Authorities.

They have big ambitions but with very little systems and infrastructure!

My sympathies for those who affected.

However, as one of my Indian friend told me sometime ago, this is nothing but the market theory about scarcity in effect.

In western countries, manpower or human is a scarce resource; so they take many measures to protect it. But in India, there is an oversupply of human, so naturally the value and the measures to secure it have gone down.

In China and India, loosing 1000 human lives is nothing special for them whereas in 'western world' (These days) loosing 10 is a big event.
