The local tea industry will have to wait further to reap the benefits originating from Iranian banks reconnecting to the the Society of Worldwide Inter bank Financial Telecommunication as Sri lanka's monetary watchdog is yet to act on it.
according to the country's Tea Exporters Association ( TEA) chief, the CBSL has been requested to expedite the process, so that the industry can capitalize on the development.

Re: Plantation Sector Updates
The new generation is no more plantation workers and we are going forward with a unseen labour problem for future. Things are not attractive for them to pluck tea or tap rubber
And the Political representatives they appoint neither voice for plantation workers or work on National interest. They work for their self interest. We can see today what Thondaman has done for the past 9 years, gulped 1.8Bn just for nothing
India has started inventing and developing tea harvesting machineries.
Japans Kagoshima region uses machinery for tea clipping and harvesting. The landscape helps them
We have a Engineering faculty, A tea Research & agricultural research Institute.. who never come together to do something to keep our country ahead of others.

Out put along with stockpiles reduced last quater due to the tail end of El nino and the following rains hampering harvesting season in Malaysia and Indonesia. The weaker Ringgit and higher Soybean oil prices are also a contributors to Crude Palm Oil prices.
2017 is being flagged as the year for trend reversal in the commodities markets.

The Invisible wrote:Plantation sector index has gained heavily over the past month or two and reached the 52W high. More over it is staying at this level. Meaning its not an artificial run. The financials we received up to now have confirmed that the sector fortunes have turned around. Plus we are yet to see some of good counter results which we will got to know in the coming few days. Now its our duty to find out whether this sector has the energy to move from current levels to even higher levels. Once we get to know the Q1 results of all the companies we should be in a good position to extrapolate it to 2017/18 FY.
Thanks
Has anyone analyze this picture. The sector index has moved from 902 on the date I wrote this to 928 as at 21st July. Its about 3% rise of the whole index but selectively there are big rises in stocks who are expected to report massive profits.
For example,
Balangoda moved from 16.40 to 17.70
Bogawanthalawa 13.20 to 14.80
Malwatte 4.30 to 5.40
Maskeliya 11.10 to 14.80
Talawakelle 45.10 to 48 etc.
I can see more room for appreciation with the pending financials.

Re: Plantation Sector Updates
Thanks CK. Yes my personal opinion is that the current trend has more legs to travel. It is evident from the way how stocks like WATA, ELPL, BALA, MAL, TPL, UDPL are consolidating even after gaining by more than 50% this year so far. On the other hand the biggest positive factor is that still the tea prices in the local and world market are firm and the expectation is the same trend to continue.CK wrote:Thank you invi. You are the one who identified the trend very early and all of us benifiting from that.
Will the trend continue?
