Lanka e news on the 3 rd of February reported that a sum of Rs. 2-3 million revenue due to the Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) /Mobitel daily on ‘call termination’ business is being siphoned off into the pockets of its chairman Kumarasinghe Sirisena .
With the nabbing of the general manager (G.M.) of this ‘Call termination’ business of SLT now , our revelation made on 3rd February has been proved as true.
This G.M. , an engineer by the name of Ajith Silva has committed daylight robbery via the ‘call termination’ business. He has robbed over 100,000 minutes of IDD every day through this scam.
If the levy for a minute on IDD call is assumed as Rs. 7/-, this individual alone has robbed over Rs. 700,000/- every day !.
Lanka e news in its previous report revealed that there is a robbery of 13 million call minutes per month at the SLT alone . In other words there is a robbery to the tune of over Rs. 90 million per month taking place.
Based on our exposures , after an operation was conducted by the CEO , Dileepa Wijesundara , it had been possible to nab the General manager Ajith Silva the engineer.

Policeman should be at the correct places to catch the bus drivers who blow their horns unnecessarily, play loud music, take unsignaled right turns, park in the middle of the road, speeding.
What is happening now is that the policemen are waiting to earn their commission and income for the policemens annual picnic party and other gifts etc.
We pay the salaries for them to work and not earn more money to subsidize the government.

Seran Sivananthamoorthy is only 25 years old which is why his knowledge of the Jaffna Public Library is limited to memory and anecdote. The library with some 95,000 volumes including the only original copy of the Yalpana Vaipavamalai or the History of the Kingdom of Jaffna was set alight by a mob in 1981 as tensions rose between the island’s Sinhalese and Tamil communities in the prelude to Sri Lanka’s civil war. Miniature editions of the Ramayana, accounts of early explorers in Ceylon and a trove of ancient palm-leaf manuscripts important to Sri Lanka’s Tamil-speaking communities were also lost in the fire.
“There are chances it could happen again,” said Seran. This is not a reference to the possibility of renewed conflict or arson, but to the fact that the integrity of such collections are threatened by a host of factors – from pests and mould to censorship imposed by casteism and patriarchy.
This was also on Kopinath Thillainathan’s mind when he, along with a friend Mauran Muralitharan, established the Noolaham Foundation that set up the Noolaham Digital Library in 2005 whose 16,000 documents now make it one of the largest Tamil digital archives available online.

While on one side Google successfully launched its first test in Sri Lanka by deploying a ‘Google Loon’ balloon over the central province, on the other hand the general public and the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are confused as to whether it will be a free Wi-Fi service or not.
When the Business Times contacted Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) CEO Muhunthan Canagey for clarification, he said, “Google Loon is not a platform to obtain free Wi-Fi for anyone in Sri Lanka. It will be free up to a certain limit and will be charged when you exceed that limit.”
