DSI in hot water after Mount Spring raid

The Consumer Affairs Authority has sealed the Dalugama factory of DSI subsidiary - Mount Spring Water (Pvt) Ltd, after seizing 37,000 bottles containing contaminated water unsuitable for consumption.

It was discovered that the water contained a chemical similar to kerosene oil.

The owner and manager of the factory was arrested and was later released on bail bonds, reports say.

They are to be produced before the Kadawatha Courts tomorrow (April 23).

The CAA has received complaints over this water by an internationally acclaimed fast food chain, a host of three star and five star hotels in Colombo, Nuwara Eliya and Bandarawela as well as from several supermarkets who have obtained bottled water from this factory.

It is said that several consumers had to take medical treatment after consuming this water.

Both the water and the bottles are produced in the factory and it is suspected that a chemical used during the manufacturing of the bottles has thus contaminated the water.

The CAA warns the public to be vigilant before consuming bottled water produced in the factory.

A group of CAA officers including its Gampaha District chief Ranjith Siriwardena and inspection officers Harshana Kumara, Y.M. S. Nishantha, W.A.C. Prasad, Kosala Ranganath and L.M.S. Navimana had conducted the raid.

Thanks for te info. I saw the news article but could not get the brand name. It is sad a prominent company like DSI falling to such levels through carelessness.

Thanx for mentioning the name of the company. Our media culture is such that we dont call a Spade a Spade.. We prefer to use common nouns when we should use proper nouns. I also wonder why we hesitate the names of big players in the market. Lets say regarding Piramal Glass PLc , when we are discussing we say one guy in top twenty is selling.. Why cant we say Mr.XXXX is selling.

Very pathetic situation  .Specially the ppl who play with Water and other cosumer goods. speciialy related to foods.

Anyway a friend of mine who had listened to Lakhada of Hudson's said there was a nice explanation by one water bottle manufacturer regarding above situation. We must not hurry and hang the man before proved as a culprit/innocent

As far as i know DSI is one best company in sri Lanka

They are socially responsible do lot of social work

This may be due to negligence of workers

Social irresponsible companies who supply unhealthy foods pay regulates and officers well. There for no legal action against them

Best example is Former MD factory managed by private sector connected to former powerful politician I have seen some photograph of production process. I do not know present position
