The Wailers live in Colombo, paying tribute to 70 years of Bob Marley.
Mainstage Events and the Global Art of Mixing presents The Wailers, Bob Marleys band, performing all his hits off the Legend album. The Wailers kicked off their global tour of 2015 in February opening with a set of sold-out shows in the U.S. The Wailers will be filling venues across the world throughout the year as they celebrate Bob Marley’s 70th birthday and the 30th anniversary of the multi platinum album Legend.
The Wailers have consistently toured for the past 40 years, and in doing so, have been keeping the legacy of Bob Marley alive. They are one of the most successful reggae groups in history, having sold over 250 million albums worldwide and played to an estimated 25 million people around the world. After touring in South America, Russia, Middle East, and Europe, The Wailers will bring their good vibrations and all Bob Marleys greatest hits from the Legend album, for one night only, to fans in Sri Lanka.
This one of a kind concert produced by Mainstage Events and the Global Art of Mixing will take place at the Mount Lavinia hotel on the 19th of May, bringing fans of Bob Marley together for an un-missable and incredible night of celebrating an icon. Set on the beautiful paradise beach it promises to be a spectacular event with doors opening at 7pm.
Bob Marley, the iconoclastic, revolutionary musician would have been 70 this year and, while he's been dead for more than 30 years, his voice is as loud as ever. Marley has over 70 million facebook fans and while people think that the most famous musician in the world or recognized musician might be John Lennon or Bono or Mick Jagger or someone like that it's Bob Marley. That's because he spoke—he speaks—to the oppressed and the downtrodden. In other words, he spoke to 90 percent of the planet.
Marley's band—founded by Marley, Peter Tosh, and Bunny Wailer—inarguably made Marley sound unlike anyone who had come before him in popular music. They developed an inimitable style and unmatched groove but Tosh and Wailer left in 1974. The next incarnation of the band, including Carlton Barrett, Aston "Family Man" Barrett, Junior Marvin, Al Anderson, Tyrone Downie, Earl "Way" Lindo, and Alvin "Seeco" Patterson, was no less potent, and is probably “The Wailers” most fans are familiar with. Today, Aston leads the band as it continues its worldwide campaign to promote peace, love and equality through the message of reggae and Rastafari.
Despite the fact that it has been endlessly reissued in a wide variety of formats since it was first released in 1984/5, the Legend album is arguably the greatest album, beginning to end, of all time. It has sold 27 million copies worldwide, and did what Marley was unable to do in his lifetime: reach a huge, mainstream audience. It was also the first time most people heard his near-perfect "Redemption song."
Responsible for successful,sold- out events like Mohombi live, High on Heels and Julian Marley, Mainstage Events and the Global Art of Mixing have consistently delivered exceptional events. Working with the top DJ’s and artists in the world, their goal and ambition is to deliver what most people have not experienced before, a world class music event, within a world class environment.
