President Mahinda Rajapaksa is eligible to contest a third term, according to the Supreme Court, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said in the Parliament short while ago.

President Rajapaksa referred two questions to the SC to get its consideration and for an opinion in order to elucidate whether he has any impediment to be elected for as further term. Subsequently, in a letter addressed to the Bar Association, the Chief Registrar of the SC has requested Bar Association of Sri Lanka to submit its written submissions with regard to this, on or before 7 November.

මහින්ද ට නෙවි කාට උනත් අලුත් නීතිය යටතේ නොව පැරණි නීතිය යටතේ වූව ඉදිරිපත් වෙන්න කිසිම බාධාවක් නැත.

ඉදිරිපත් වූ පසු ඒ එක් එක් අය සුදුසුද නුසුදුසුද යන්න තීරණය කර බාර ගැනීම හෝ ප්‍රතික්‍ෂේප කිරීම කරන්නේ මැතිවරන කොමසාරිස් ය.

ඒ සඳහා ඔහු නීතියේ ඇති ප්‍රතිපාදන භාවිතා කරයි.
ඕනෑම කරුණකදී නීතියේ ඇති ප්‍රතිපාදන ගැන බැලීමේ දී සලකා බැලෙන්නේ ඒ දිනට පවතින නීතියයි. එ සේ නැතුව පුරාණයේ පැචති නීති නොවේ. ඒ අනුව අද පව තින නීතිය අනුව මහින් දට නොව වෙන ඕනෑම අයෙකුට ඕනෑම වාරයක් තරග කළ හැක. (ඔහුට විරුද්ධව උසාවි නියෝගයක් දී නැත්නම්.)

Personal disqualification theory is an imagination and just a tool used to popularized 'Thun Varak Be' slogan.

This my own argument only. I have not seen yet what SC has stated on this.

This was another orchestrated eye-wash only.
Now Fans will go saying that he won for the 3rd time (when in fact, what happened in the last two occasions is no secret). Shocked

The need to be there until the scion is ready as the replacement is obvious.
How the business community as well as the common people would react is something interesting to speculate? Very Happy

Will there be a movements like what we have seen in Thailand and Philippine in the past?
I have my doubts (White van phobia). Very Happy

sajith will be the winner in this election whether mr wins or not.

if ranil contests and wins he will become the prime minister.
if ranil absconds to contest and goes in favour of common candidate sajith will thrash him for ruining unp and will grab the leadership of unp.
if ranil contests and loses unpers will remove him from leading the next parliament election and give the opposition leadership to sajith.
