Sri Lanka top place to travel in 2019: Lonely Planet

ECONOMYNEXT - Sri Lanka's has been named the best place to travel in 2019 by Lonely Planet, a travel portal which also publishes travelers guides.



"Sri Lanka is decidedly having its moment in the equatorial sun and change is coming swiftly," the portal said.

"Already notable to intrepid travellers for its mix of religions and cultures, its timeless temples, its rich and accessible wildlife, its growing surf scene and its people who defy all odds by their welcome and friendliness after decades of civil conflict, this is a country revived.

"There’s now more than ever for families, adrenaline junkies, eco-tourists, wellness seekers and foodies of all budgets.

"Even the north and east, including areas previously off limits, difficult to reach or lacking in services, deliver new discoveries."

Now some positive news pouring in.
Hope authorities will take this seriously and use this as launch pad to revive tourism sector.

Yes serene I agree. Our tourism sector has been bleeding for several years with actions by authorities that lacked vision. The main issue created was allowing many international brands here without control. Rather than what should have been done was to create some Sri Lankan brands with globally accepted goodwill and allow few international brands to raise the competition as well as giving the ability to our local brands to benchmark with those international brands.

Unless we change our attitude towards visitors in general, we will not make hay with this good exposure.
