    බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය ලේබර් පක්ෂයේ අපේක්ෂක සදික් ඛාන් ලන්ඩන් නගරාධිපති ධුරය සඳහා තේරී පත් විය.

    පාකිස්තානයේ සිට බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය වෙත සංක්‍රමණය වූ බස් රියැදුරකුගේ පුතකු වන ඔහු යුරෝපා සංගමයට අයත් අගනුවරක නගරාධිපති ධුරයට පත් පළමු මුස්ලිම් පුරවැසියා ලෙස ඉතිහාසයට එක් වේ.

    සදික් ඛාන් කලින් බලයේ සිටි ලේබර් පක්ෂ ආණ්ඩුවේ අමාත්‍යවරයකු වශයෙන්ද කටයුතු කොට තිබේ.

    නගරාධිපතිවරණයේදී ඔහුගේ ප්‍රතිවාදියා වූයේ කොන්සර්වේටිව් පක්ෂ අපේක්ෂක කෝටිපතියකු වන සැක් ගෝල්ඩ්ස්මිත්.

    ලේබර් පක්ෂ අපේක්ෂකයකු ලන්ඩන් නගරාධිපති ධුරය සඳහා තේරී පත් වූයේ වසර අටකට පසුවයි.

    මහජනතාව විසින් භීතියේ දේශපාලනය බැහැර කරනු ලැබීමක් ලෙස සදික් ඛාන් සිය ජයග්‍රහණය විග්‍රහ කරයි.

    නගරාධිපති ප්‍රචාරණ ව්‍යාපාරය තුළ 'පාලක කොන්සර්වේටිව් පක්ෂය තමා ඉස්ලාමීය අන්තවාදීන් සමග සබඳතා පවත්වන්නකු වශයෙන් මවා පෑමට ගත් උත්සාහයයි' සදික් ඛාන් සිය විග්‍රහය මගින් අදහස් කරන ලද්දේ.

    ලන්ඩන් ජනතාවට සියලුම අවස්ථාලාභයන් උදා කිරීමට පියවර ගන්නා බවට සිය ජයග්‍රහණයෙන් අනතුරුව අදහස් දක්වමින් සදික් ඛාන් ප්‍රතිඥා දුන්නේය.

    සදික් ඛාන් මානව හිමිකම් වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටි නීතිඥවරයෙක් වශයෙන්ද ප්‍රසිද්ධියක් උසුලයි.

    Why England always stay far behind us ?

    In the movie , Iron Lady, initially Thatcher says " a woman prime minister in England ... ? Never ..." Yet the real video of her becoming shows the news break.. UK join to the ranks of Sirimavo Bandaranyaike of SL and Indira Gandhi of India by having a woman Prime Minister...


    For a longer period Colombo Mayor was a Muslim...and that was not even a news worthy item for SL...

    Why is England always late to accept equal rights for Women and Ethnic Minorities...?

    Why can't any Sri Lankan NGOs now write and educate the Londoners... to become civilized...?

    Good Point. By the way, this is not a major achievement. Real achievement is to see a non-Muslim mayor in a majority Muslim city. How about Riyadh City in Saudi Arabia get a Catholic/Hindu/Buddhist Mayor. Then this could be a good development.

    Are the minority representatives matured enough to understand themselves that the top layers like President , PM, Opposition Leader  etc represent the entire  nation than one individual group..?


    Hal your point is very valid... can a non Muslim become a mayor in Muslim majority living area.?

    Yes and I think they are not ready either to see the bigger picture.

    To identify oneself with a particular race, with a particular country or with certain ideologies yields security, satisfaction and flattering self-importance. This worship of the part, instead of the whole, cultivates antagonism, conflict and confusion.
