Sri Lanka's third coal plant to start test runs in June
China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), the turnkey contractor for the Norochcholai complex said a recent shutdown at the plant was scheduled and was not a 'breakdown'.
The shutdown for servicing in the boiler was scheduled to be done after the hand-over, the firm said.
"During the scheduled shut down there was some servicing done to the boiler, which was completed within half a day," CMEC said.
Once a plant is handed over for commercial operations, it goes through a 'defect rectification period' of about a year when further issues are identified and fixed.
The third plant is expected to begin its reliability test runs from June adding another 300 MW is capacity.
Sri Lanka's two 300MW coal plants produced 12.96 GigaWatt hours of energy (millions of units of electricity) on May 19, or 35.5 percent of daily demand.
