I have predicted that once the government is going to govern the FMCG honey-moon will end.

    Today Mirror Business P1

Consumer driven rally to cool off soon with fiscal tightening

So those who live on the dream of booming food and beverage sector take a note of underlying economic issues.

Please read Mirror Business very carefully today.

1 Sri Lankan July trade gap narrows sharply

Noteworthy foreign outflow ahead of Fed decision
    Tourism earning up: remittances moderate

    2. Consumer driven rally to cool off soon

    3. Employers federation to break plantation wage deadlock

    4. Mid-range hoteliers must change business model for survival

5 Rupee ends steady on state bank dollar sales

We have to seriously study the ground that we play and now try to figure the whole picture instead of patching up here and there and predict.

It seems still the FMCG is performing well

    Ceylon Cold Stores
    Bairaha Farms

So far confirm the massive growth of EPS of FMCG sector.
When salaries of state employees increased substantially and when oil price is kept low, it created a consumer driven market.

Continuity of the FMCG rally depend on next fiscal policy direction

BFL has fallen from 240s despite a very healthy financial report. This means traders are out for the time being. They may also collect at 220 levels. The dividend of Rs. 2.0 is not encouraging it seems.. However, FMCG sector, at least the chicks, are not seeing the end is my opinion.

Shares get heated up due to speculators.. So the price of BFL went up.. Share is good.. Long term holders are very patient like vultures.. They mark time to enter... Speculators want to rush to next wave..So they cant wait patiently they just dump ..So BFL fall.. Dividend hunters have their choice...

At the end I too believe BFL will have more chances of maintaining the earnings...Just imagine increasing the inflow of tourists by few millions is like adding consumption demand...

unfortunately the tourist we get either pretend to be vegies or stick to just one all inclusive meal a day.

    Very good point Rameez...

This is my observation..(may be just one incident or may be in general ) The tourists who accommodate in Royal Palm Beach Hotel (5 star) who take all inclusive dinner are absent during lunch..

They sun bath on the sands and next move out to a nearby small house where they get lunch..

    Why?

Either you can argue that they are so concerned about the cost...but I think its the different experience they seek...

Being a tourist they like to get what they do not get in their country.. People who talk English in different accent in half sentences, eating amazing food that is not available on standard menu every where, and enjoy the surrounding which is different....

We need not to have all the wealthy people and to assume a tourist as a walking-ATM , but a human being irrespective of how much he is willing to spend here..

There is another view on Western Tourist..

On my recent visit to N'Eliya I visited Sada Thanna... A nice location which was not opened for public earlier..

You cannot go in your own vehicle after reaching the ticket counter you have to take a safari Jeep..In this Jeep you can reach upto a center point where you can see 360 Panoramic view...Then only you can get out of the Jeep and take Photos...

The driver said " This place is attractive for Arabic and Sri Lankan only,, who do not like walking...

White man like to walk, cycle and move freely than just travel in a vehicle and take photos..."

But when we see a cycling White Man/Woman we say these are cost conscious tourists... Aren't they adventure conscious...?

The best way to see and feel any new place is to do like locals do.
That is what many tourists do these days.
The older definition of Tourists drawn in our mind has to change now.
If we are to reap the benefits of this new segment then we have to get our act polished.
