Re: CCS.N0000 ( Ceylon Cold Stores)
As per CCS reports, volume drop is as high as 21% during 3rd Q on YoY basis.
Sugar tax was imposed on carbonated beverages since Nov 2017. It increased the prices, and the label contained a mark showing the level of sugar.
Surprisingly sugar tax was only imposed on carbonated drinks, where even Milo or Nescafe also include a massive sugar content.

Staying focused,,,staying ahead... 2017/18
CCS has increased its revenue, despite many obstacles for FMCG sector.
However the bottom line was affected by these adverse conditions like imposing tax on sugar content as well as slowing of GDP growth.

The PE ratios clearly shows the speculative nature of market price in 2011 , and yet like many companies in FMCG sector the PE ratio is still at a higher value.
Top twenty list shows that foreign funds are interested in this company and in 2018 alone, BBH Emerging Asia Fund has collected few millions of shares.

This proposal if implemented as said will turn CCS financials and growth upside down. When this was introduced last year CCS profits plummeted dramatically. Now CCS is trading around 730/- and if this is confirmed ( will not cut back in case RW is back or someone else) there is a strong chance for CCS to move back towards 1,000/-.

Re: CCS.N0000 ( Ceylon Cold Stores)
Jun 11, 2019
Sri Lanka's Ceylon Cold Stores, which operates the Elephant House food and beverage brand, scrapped its 'Go Sugar Free' soft drink line due to low consumer demand, the firm has said.
"The traction on the CSD (Carbonated Soft Drinks) “Go Sugar Free” variant introduced in 2018 was disappointing and as a result of the lack of consumer demand for sugar free CSD beverages in the Sri Lankan market, the Company withdrew the range," Ceylon Cold Stores shareholders in the annual report.
The 'Go Sugar Free' line was launched in April 2018, after Sri Lanka's elected ruling class, egged on by social engineering etatists tried to force unarmed citizens to dance to their tune by slapping a punitive tax on soft-drinks sweetened with natural sugar in 2017.
Sri Lanka also has high taxes on alcohol and beer.
Ceylon Cold Stores introduced sugar free versions of the existing beverages such as EGB, Necto, Cream Soda and Orange Crush.
The sugar free products contained Stevia, a plant-based sweetener.
The firm said the beverage sector volumes fell 16 percent due to an overall demand fall in discretionary food items, which was made worse with the sugar tax.
However, in 2019, the government revised the etatistic sugar tax to 40 cents per gram of sugar from the original 50 cents per gram, helping the beverage sector pick up.
"The industry welcomed rationalization of the sugar tax in the Government budget proposals for 2019 enabling the business to reduce prices of carbonated beverages towards the end of the financial year, which resulted in an uptick in volumes," the firm said.

Re: CCS.N0000 ( Ceylon Cold Stores)
Results for Apr - June quarter just around the corner. When I read through JKH press release I found that their beverage sector has done well YoY. So I went to CCS financials and found the below.
Apr - June 18 - 14bn revenue with a gross margin of 8.9% they have reported a PAT of 239mn
Jan-March 19 - 15.5bn revenue with a gross margin of 11.7% they have reported a PAT of 528mn. They have changed the accounting standard to SLFRS 16 for finance cost which has resulted to increase the finance cost by 10 fold but still they are marginally below the corresponding quarter PAT.
So then I have just work out what could be the likely scenario for Apr-Jun 19 result. Based on Jan-Mar 19 numbers they can generate a revenue about 16bn and with a similar GP margin they are in a good position to generate a PAT around 550-600mn so that will be more than 100% PAT growth YoY!!!!
Well then what the charts show to me. The price was largely below 600/- till the send week of July but suddenly jumped to 750/- by last week.
May be investors have seen the same picture what I have just saw and taking early positions. I am not sure whether the price can further move up or not but the quarter report will be very good YoY and the technical charts too showing bullish signs from 600/- mark.

Re: CCS.N0000 ( Ceylon Cold Stores)
ECONOMYNEXT - Profits at Sri Lanka's Ceylon Cold Stores Plc, a consumer goods firm grew 72 percent to 412 million rupees in the June 2019 quarter from a year earlier, with sales and margin growth, interim accounts shows.
The firm reported earnings of 4.34 rupees per share for the quarter. The stock fell 15.70 rupees to close at 737.89 on June 30, after making strong recent gains.
The firm produces ice cream and beverages under its Elephant House brand.
"Consumer Foods witnessed growth on account of improved performance in the Beverages and Frozen Confectionery businesses driven by growth in volumes and improved profitability on account of higher margins," the firm said.
"Retail performance was driven by robust revenue growth in the Supermarkets business, supported by the rebranding initiative, expansion of outlets and a pickup in average basket values."
Revenues grew 20 percent to 16.73 billion rupees, cost of sales grew at a slower 15 percent to 14.58 billion rupees and gross profits grew a steep 67 percent to 2.1 billion rupees.
The consumer business had grown despite disruptions from Easter Sunday attacks, CCS parent John Keells Holdings had said earlier. (Colombo/July31/2019)
