i forget to add that one week after we won the World Cup, i was invited for dinner at a very good friends place. there was alltogether only 8 people there for dinner. among them were Arjuna, Aravinda, Sanath and Mahanama (murali was invited too but could not make it). They had still not watched the 2 hour world cup final highlights video and so we all watched it together and the cross stalk and banter between them was awesome !
I also remember Ian Healy (the Aussie wicket keeper) famously remarked (after the final), that if God could bat, he would bat like Aravinda !

last year, i visited Kalu's Hideaway in Udawalawe with my kids and Kalu was also there so he joined us for dinner. i was chatting to him about the Tendulkar dismissal (that he was instrumental in ) that was the turning point in the match we won against India in the semi final at Eden Gardens in front of a 100,000 crowd, where they abandoned the game, exactly 19 years ago tomoro the 13th March 1996).

I remember watching 1996 world cup as a much younger man. I do vaguely remember the incident you refer. But I remember the final much more.
I have met atleast one person of that team in person in their hay days. He was very humble and soft spoken. I think you can guess which one.
