I saw this video before and went through it again now.
Does anyone find anything wrong with what Mervyn is saying or behaving now ?
( I am not looking at this from politics or parties but as a character study)

Just another case of Pot calling Kettle black.
But what we badly need are independent Anti Corruption Investigation unit, Big Income Tax, free judiciary and most importantly free media, if we are ever to come even closer to scandinavian countries or even Singapore for that matter.
I am hopeful.

Here are some one issues to think ( I have more) ,
1) Should he be doing this now after nearly worshipping them before?
2) If he is not afraid of dying as he says , why did he not bring this up during when those people were in power ? I would have respected Mervyin if he did so then . Now ... ?
3) Is the genuine reason as Mervyin says is to set precedence or it is for revenge ?
Certain things he said during the speech may suggest to public certain things.

SLS, being a Hit-man of MR regime, Mervin knows very-well how difficult it was to challange MR when he was in power. Mervin himself may have executed some orders of MR. Attack on SIRASA is one such incident. Hence, I think his behaviour is natural though he now professes that he he not afraid of his life, in fact, he was afraid of his life during MR regime.slstock wrote:I saw this video before and went through it again now.

Mervyn has a psychological problem and taking medicine. Have many doctor members in the family to confirm it. There is a swing between manic to depression. Talking ealth wise the new opposition is not at a good state. There is a particular hospital former govt members come to.
Anyways people on the street complaining nothing done. 3 wheel stand guys said sir "dushana karayonta mukuth karanne ne wage ne"
After the commissions etc are properly set up with more power lets hope at least going forward nothing serious will happen. Under the current system big fish is likely to go free.. Can anyone name a single politician convicted for bribery and corruption.?
Even if there are cases it will be a drag. For example two high profile cases Ratwatte and Ravi K were dragged. Ratwatte died and Ravi Ks next hearing is on Jan 29th. Guess whats scheduled for that day ?

Good point Bala. If My3 is really genuine in his promise of yahapalanaya, he shuld first insist on expediting all corruption charges against the government members before others. Well when everybody is having dirty laundry they are afraid to show others as theirs will be revealed.
Interelated back scratching and no feasible system to expose ( without repercussions ) even if one is genuine was the bottleneck
in Sri Lanka. I had my share of experience when trying to be direct.
99% of the politicians talk 70% BS and do service to oneself before the country.
This is were the Adhi rajya wadhi , interest groups, media freedom has helped those countries to reduce ( not eradicate) corruption whether people agree/like it or not in SL.
Btw, if someone is having mental illnesses they should be not be appointed by superiors or be working in public service. They should be removed from service and Illness needs to be treated first . But that did not happen in Sri Lanka. I see many mental patients and people with no qualification roaming scotts free while the deserving is harassed and not recognized.
Things needs to change, not only from politican side but as patriotic collective people power to stand up for what is decent and right.
If one takes the Amritsar massacre (Jallianwala Bagh) in 1919, the lives lost were a sad and pathetic issue in name of freedom and justice. But those lives were not lost in vain . They were heroes.
Same applied to Sri Lanka ( not at that large scale ). If one looked at the freedom struggle people in Sri lanka there were people from all races working collective for one goal.
We need politicans of the caliber before 1950s and a few people of the caliber of Puran Appu.
I am neither but I am trying to do my bit locally and internationally in my little way.
Time to make a change in Sri Lanka and to put a united country first to take it higher up.

We cant just arrest anyone or stop going abroad in an abrupt manner. It can be a case human rights. Govt had all systems against former CJ so thats a different case. Innocent proven guilty. Also Mervyn complaining has limited credibility but JVP did against MR family as well. Justice done the way 3 wheeler guys or Ranjan Ramanayake wants can be done if we have a system in place. Lawyers will know there are many limitations on current laws.
New system with new laws and more power to tackle these.
Forensic accountants are used to look at accounts, asset registry etc of the accused to support the lawyers. Phone tapping etc is carried out. Rajarathnam was caught with phone tapping. Phone tapping will need for new ministers Also need to link with interpol. Need substantial evidence to move forward. Looking at past deeds difficult if they cover their tracks. Also cash and assets maybe under names of other people.
Should not relate to politics only need to look at corporate world as well. This should cover company and cse dealings.
If the system was in place it will act as a deterrent. Singapore is clean because of strict laws and a system in place and not because people are like that.
PS. Political donations should be mentioned in AR for good corporate governance. Few bluchips are rumored to have done it this time.
