predictions 2015 Budget

Hi Friends

We all should develop the ability to predict future in areas we are familiar with. Now we have a very good opportunity. Lest try to make predictions on tomorrows budget proposal.. Within two days we can then see whether our predictions were true or not

Let me start

1. Tax on Vehicles import

No changes to existing.
Justification. .. If tax is reduced buyers will be happy but those who have already imported will be up in arm against government in the election era. If price is increased vehicle buyers will be upset but the majority votes are like that. Former the wealthy minority and latter the vote base. Its better not to upset the both. Giving or extending permits to nurses and teachers for various vehicle categories will make everyone happy. So we can expect that

2. Petrol price

Its better to play the trump card late. Its a good move to keep it unutilized until the last few days like Electricity before Uva. But including a statement like that there will be reduction planned and with reduction with bus-fare, train fare along the fuel reduction will make voters ready

3. Payee tax

rate will be reduced and the limit eligible will be increased to make it a popular budget

I feel there will be concessions and encouragement specially for Corporates to attract votes as well as to give necessary impetus inline with prected economic growth.

Milk powder - deduction on imported milk powder is expected (The world market prices have fallen.)

Fuel - 5 or 10 rupee reduction on Fuel (Dollar value of a barrel has fallen steeply)

Funny thing is, world market prices of commodities have fallen sharply, and they reduce the price as budget proposals in a way of budget concesions of Mahinda Chinthana .

There is so much talk about vehicle taxes specially by prospective buyers who are hoping for a reduction while car sale fellows are saying it will increase so that they can sell their existing stocks. Still not quite sure. They might adjust taxes of specific vehicle types though, specially hybrids.

Lowering taxes mean, more vehicles on the road, roads which do not have the capacity, specially in Colombo. More cars mean more petrol pumped as well

Milk powder - interesting how this will affect LMF.

Fuel - This is definitely on the cards, but for how long has CPC stocked with the old stocks? Will they try to recover losses using the margin?

Now "stand by count down for 56 more minutes". So yes, budget talk maybe starting at 1.30. (I recall last year was around same time. )

But the beautifully accurate time information provided to youtube is very nice.

Now our exercise is over. Its time to check how accurate we are.

I made three predictions

1. Vehicle tax - I am wrong. Something is happening to vehicle price. no one knows what it is .. no clear indications

2. Oil Price - I am right.. No change yet

3. Payee tax - I am right...
