    Millions of Advertisements are thrown at us each day..Shall we dedicate a thread just to talk about advertisements..Story behind it, interpretations, theories and many more we can discuss under that.

    *************************************************************

    Very recently Laugh moved to a new Head Office at 101 Maya avenue .  A full page advertisement was on news papers...

    The Sinhala ad read almost a word to word translation from English copy.

    It read like

     කාරණා 101 නිසා අපි මායා අවනිවූ වෙත

    In English we often use the phrase 101 reasons .. But in Sinhala exact translation makes no sense..

    Some of the other languages phrases have no matching sinhala phrases.
    If you do a direct translation, it looks awkward and embarrassing too.
    Like I often hear " අප සමග පියාසර කිරිම ගැන ඔබට ස්තුතී " (Thanks you for flying with us) on many flights these days. Very Happy

    Great rewards only for them and not for us.
    Perpetual Treasuries stolen the Central bank and now going to steal commercial banks.

    I heard they are about to buy major stakes at DFCC, NDB and Central Finance and get in to the Director Board. If this happens, it's better to withdraw the money from those banks if you have deposits.

    This is a case study on how advertisements work.. above is an advertisement published in Lankadeepa on 13th October 2016.

    After reading this advertisement a businessman purchase above vehicle from relevant authorized dealer for his business purpose and the main reason is the last mentioned factor ( three seats with seat belts ) for making his decision.

    However after purchasing the vehicle he drove his lorry with two others seated  front and often fined as the traffic police said the vehicle is meant not  for three seats but two..

    The quotation mentioned three seats but the CR book of RMV mention one excluding driver..

    To his surprise he also found that there are only two seat belts for front seats...including the driver...

    He informed this situation to the vehicle dealer...

    Legal lesson

    an offer of sale is not classified by the courts as a legal offer but is instead seen as an advertisement.

    so the statements of an ad is not legal binding.. But the poor consumer who bought this vehicle , who need two assistants to accompany him in traveling ( he is a vegetable seller and need to helpers to unload ) have to pay fines all the way ...

    He should have taken this up to the local consumer protection agency (but very unlikely to get a redress from them) and report to Toyota corporation in Japan for unethical practice.
    That way the principal will force the local agent to address the issue in a decent way.

    I think he can go to the consumer protection and get a solution.

    If it doesn't work. Use the vehicle to block the entrance and the road to the vehicle show room and start a unto death hunger protest;
    .....oh before that inform some TV station also.

    "Block a road and inform a TV station"; that's tag line works these days lads.

    And [trying to] hang yourself on a ceiling-fan also might work [with some delay though].

    But the 'must have' necessity always is a TV station;
    'Seriously!.
