This is what it's like to be Autistic
Note: This refers to a severely autistic child. Not every autistic person is like this. Also they are very intelligent in many cases.
" With autism all of the brain neurons keep firing all at once, as we grow we learn to shut out some noises, such as holding a conversation in a shopping center, we learn to focus on just the conversation. With autism, you cannot shut everything else out, you hear and see everything, shopping trolleys, phones ringing, cups chinking, the air conditioners, music from every shop, people talking, and you also take in everything you see, when you look at a face you can take in everything within one glance, which is why it's hard to make eye contact, this is why you go into overload, as all of this is way too much for your brain to process at once" - Caroline Emery
... it's called a "spectrum" disorder, because it varies case by case. This is an example of ONE PERSON. Understanding autism is important, but understanding that every person and every case is different is even more important.-- Shelby Tabone
