The share market is a gamble said United People’s Freedom Alliance Member of Parliament Bandula Gunawardena while speaking at a media briefing.

Gunawardena said this while criticizing the National Pensions Gratuity Fund which would amalgamate the existing Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and the Employees Trust Fund (ETF) as proposed recently by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe when he put forward the government’s mid-term economic vision.

“In the past, the monies in these funds were invested on Treasury bills, Treasury bonds and Treasury and other better securities. Hence, the invested money and interest are 100 per cent assured according to the agreements. The share market is eying to fully utilize this huge fund and invest it on risky shares. This is the ulterior motive here,” said the parliamentarian.

While adding further, Member of Parliament Bandula Gunawardena said, “All of you know that share markets the world over is a gamble. It goes up and comes down or collapses. Sometimes it gets destroyed completely.”

i strongly disagree. investing is not a zero sum game. one can play gambling with almost anything if want. but investing is not gambling dear MP.

Its usual these type of psychos come and try to be gurus at a time of depression. anyway there is an old wall street saying

Buy when there's blood in the streets, even if the blood is your own

people who know the art of investing will grab opportunies when it comes.

CSE has mostly spot transaction of ordinary shares. Limited warrants and limited margin trading.

No shorting (though there could be a little using SBL)/ no futures, .. no presence of large hedge funds due to sheer size and liquidity... so limited (if any) analog trading

And if you have dealt in any advanced market, this looks like plain vanilla or plain paang . If this market looks like gambling to B(and)ull(a) the economics teacher, god save his students and the economy.

Topic of the thread inclined me not to go through the content. For the record Still I am not.

Even if this is true (It is not by any stretch of imagination) we are gambling with the Share Market and those political morons gamble the lives of innocent people for their survival.

How come the share market which was taken as a token of a strength of one government just become a gambling spot.
