WEATHER FORECAST FOR 24th DECEMBER 2014

(Issued at 12.00 noon on 23rd December 2014)

Due to the atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showery weather is expected to continue. Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, North-central, Eastern, Central, Uva and Southern provinces. Heavy showers (more than 100mm) are also likely at some places.

Showers or thunder showers will occur elsewhere particularly during the afternoon and night.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.

Formation and position of clouds show it directly affects Sri Lanka. Winds seems to be Easterly direction will have to expect rain + windy situation. Hope I am right.

BTW this is Indian Met dept. and any way we can find Sri Lankan weather through them? I checked the site. It is crowded with lot of information and could not find any forecast in relation to Sri Lanka.  I can remember I read in a local news paper sometime back, IMD had predicted more accurate weather in compared to our met department. Can not remember exact year , I think that was the time  some fishing boats went missing in the mid sea as SL met department failed to adequately warn them prior to their journey.
