Most books containing Lord Buddha’s real sermons which were originally written in old Sinhala(Elu Basa or Hela Basa) languages were burnt around 500 BC by misguided (by Mhayana Bhikkus) local kings and what was left were also taken away by the British rulers.
As a result, Mahayana books (translations of Hela books into Pali language) written around the same period by Rev. Buddha Gosha and few others were introduced by the British scholars as source material for preparation of text books on Buddhism. No one questioned the authenticity of these source materials owing to our own stupidity or colonial mentality of accepting all what is said & done by the British.
In fact, Rev. Buddha Gosha who translated Hela Thripitakaya in to Pali, Rev Mahanama who translated Sinhala Mahawansaya in to Pali and few others who wrote some dhamma books were all South Indians who had no knowledge on true meaning of Hela languages. This grave mistake (actually it's a grave crime against humanity) closed all avenues for attaining Nirwana by the present day students of Lord Buddha.
What we were taught in the Damma schools were all Mahanic versions of adulterated Buddhism.
That is why current scholars are dinging in to the lost History. They have been successful in reviving original teachings of Lord Buddha but sadly many so-called Buddhists are still unable (or not ready) to drop the shit introduced by Mahayanic scholars, because that was what the British scholars taught us.
I appreciate their efforts to revive true teachings of Lord Buddha despite brick-bats.
