Indian High Commissioner Nirupama Rao, who intervened and appealed to the Sri Lankan government to protect a flagship Indian investment
It's very rarely an ambassador openly intervene in business matters.

I don't drive to work everyday. I often do pooling or go by bus to work.
We have a serious problem with three wheelers. There are more three wheelers imported than motor cars. Three wheelers are dangerous and cause lots of accidents.
The only solution is to improve the public transport. There is no other alternative. Sooner the Government understands this better for the country and public.

Jan tax increase did have an impact only temporarily since Yen value further dropped to around 1.06 from 1.13 in Jan offsetting tax increase a lot.
The village mans vehicle is Motor bike or 3 wheeler so if there are restrictions on that will have impact on the majority. Problem is we see the mudukku guys in COl driving around mostly in 3 wheelers and hate them. Even in Kelaniya I know respectable village families use a 3 wheeler as the family vehicle. However village bikers are worse than in Col.
Talk of Monorail again http://colombogazette.com/2015/10/08/sri-lanka-to-seek-bids-for-1st-urban-railway-project/ .
Past govt had a good chance to do this but Clown Prince wanted the Monorail in Hambantota where there are 4 lane each side roads which sometimes only used by the Bullock carts. Luckily did not get implemented.
Need to do something during the next 5 years or will need to ban import of vehicles or vehicles entering cities.

Not having discipline on road is causing more issues than having more than necessary number on roads.
During rush hour, 6 lane motor way in LA is clogged so bad yet you can see discipline in that grid lock unlike here.
I think, discipline is more of an issue than the numbers.
Draining out FC is a serious issue and how to kill two birds in one shot is to improve public transport.
Any other suggestions guys ?

Some of you may be familiar with this vehicles imports business. Prior to current agent valuation scheme, there was a very irregular method, so that government lost a huge revenue. Some times after adjesting the agent valuations, Gov might revise the Duty rates too, if it is a reduction, then will be presented as a budget proposal.කිත්සිරි ද සිල්වා wrote:Nothing is impossible !Ukboy wrote:I wonder will they amend the flat rate of taxes later? Above is a detailed article about this vehicle import scandal happened over the years.
Some people criticize this re-valuation, but You may see how much revenue was lost to the government, and who earned undue profits.
Below link shows the dismal state of government revenue.
