Our Independence - and thoughts
Names such Hon DS Senanayake, Sir P Ramanathan, TB Jayah , Anagarika Dharmapala, Sir Arunachalam, CWW Kannangara and others come to mind. We should also not forget Mahatma's contribution if you know what I mean.
A moment of silence for those remarkable people.

Re: Our Independence - and thoughts
British did try to capture the Kandyan Kingdom few times before 1815 but failed.
There were many betrayals throughout this period. For me Molligoda dissave did much of it. Many Sri Lankans believe Ehelepola Adhikaram did the biggest betrayal but Molligoda is the worst one by many miles.
Aristocracy like Molligoda, Eknaligoda, Mahawalatanne (Sirmavo’s ancestries) didn’t support 1818 Uva rebellion as well. If they didn’t support the British, the history of Sri Lanka would have been a different one.

Re: Our Independence - and thoughts
Look at the positive side.
Many people in the world have ideologies, personal agendas and are no saints. One could say Mahatma also had a personal agenda if you look at his aspirations.
But putting country before self during a crucial time to fight for a united cause with the goal of rescuing our nation is something we should all admire.
We all should also remember all those who laid down their lives in the name of their motherland including the brave soldiers.
My respects to them. Not only on the 4th but will be till I die.

Re: Our Independence - and thoughts
Independence is a condition of a nation, country, or state in which its residents and population, or some portion thereof, exercise self-government, and usually sovereignty, over the territory. The opposite of independence is a dependent territory. Independence does not necessarily mean freedom. (Wiki)
