Sri Lanka President could dissolve parliament if interim budget is defeated: Wijedasa
Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena suspended parliament until November 16, after appointing Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister.
Incumbent Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe maintains that he cannot be sacked under the constitution, which was intentionally amended to limit the ability of President to remove the Prime Minister or dissolve parliament before the lapse of 4.5 years.
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has asked President to recall parliament following requests by the Wickremesinghe's United National Party, the Tamil National Alliance and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.
United National Peoples' Alliance spokesmen have said there is no need to recall parliament early.
Meanwhile Dunesh Dankanda, a member of Wickremesinghe's United National Party defected to Rajapaksa's camp Tuesday and was appointed State Minister for Environment. (Colombo/Oct31/2018)
