Virgin Atlantic flight back in UK after 'laser incident'
He said the incident took place six to seven miles west of Heathrow.
It happened at 20:13 GMT, shortly after take-off, the company said, before the VS025 flight returned as a precaution.
Metropolitan Police tweeted: "Aircraft forced to return to Heathrow after being hit by a laser strike... #laserstrike CAD4."
There were 252 passengers and 15 crew on board.
In a statement Virgin Atlantic said it was working with the authorities to identify the source of the laser.
It said: "The VS025 travelling from London Heathrow to New York JFK flight has returned to Heathrow as a precautionary measure due to a laser beam incident.
"The safety of our crew and customers is our top priority and we apologise for any inconvenience to those onboard.
"All customers will be offered overnight accommodation and we will get them on their journey as soon as possible."

Can you tell me whether in space there is a location where it is similar to the Bermuda Triangle or something like a 'black hole'?

Hence it is logical to think that it was something created by us due to some coincidence and lack of understanding.

How dangerous are lasers to planes ?
But how dangerous are these devices? And what does the law in the UK say about their use?

SriLankan Airlines to axe Rome, boost Middle East, China
SriLankan Airlines said it was responding to competition by "re-evaluating its current operations and re-deploying capacity to more sustainable routes and destinations."
The airline said it will continue non-stop flights from Colombo to London as the 'main gateway' to Europe. It will fly to Paris four times a week and a fight Frankfurt flight will be added during summer 2016.
SriLankan has said it was losing money on European routes, especially with older fuel-guzzling A340 aircraft which have now been phased out.
An earlier attempt to cut the Rome flight was reportedly thwarted by ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa following lobbying by sections of the clergy.
Sri Lanka's high end tourist hotel lobby is also pressuring the airline to operate loss-making routes to Europe at the expense of the people to safeguard their own profits.
The airline started to lose money after Dubai-based Emirates terminated its management deal over a disagreement with the ousted Rajapaksa regime.
SriLankan said it will start daily flights to Riyadh and six flights a week to Jeddah. It now flies 42 times week to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, Dammam, Riyadh, Jeddah and Kuwait in the Middle East.
SriLankan operates 88 flights a week to seven Indian destinations and 26 flights to Male.
The carrier said its South Asian operations are also a lynchpin of its partnership with OneWorld, a global airline alliance.
China, which is catching up with India as the top tourist destination is also a key focus area. The airline said I recently started to fly non-stop three times a week to Guangzhou.
It flies to Beijing, Shanghai, Canton and Kunming in the mainland 18 times a week and three times a week to Hong Kong.
SriLankan operates 19 flights week to Singapore and twice a day to Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.

'a good after-taste of Paradise'
in the world and lets keep it that way. However, I notice that the Cabin Crew are getting old and older as time goes by just the same as with the fleet of places in active service. Our Forum expert Kithsiri can help us with the statistics and service and let us know whether 'Our Boys' have 'sweated the assets' appropriately.
Hopefully, the Cabin Crew will not be like 'Indian Airlines' who are old and ugly looking DASH (Prohibited to pronounce in the media) and that's why Indian Air Lines failed miserably.
Can anyone answer the question: How does the 'Make in India' concept apply with regard to this subject and also why aren't the beautiful women hired for the airline?
None of our business should not be the answer. Objection over ruled....

Philippine Air signs multi billion dollar Airbus deal
PAL will start taking delivery of the Airbus A350-900 jets in two years, Jamie Bautista, PAL's president, and Fabrice Bregier, Airbus president, told a news conference at the Singapore Airshow on Wednesday.
The country's No. 2 airline is taking in more aircraft to cater to increased demand from millions of Filipinos working overseas, just as rival Cebu Pacific expands its local routes.
"The market is growing, the economy in the Philippines is improving, so that will allow more Filipinos to afford travel," said Bautista.

Lithium-ion batteries banned as cargo on passenger flights
Update III
Additional Changes for Lithium Ion Batteries
On 22 February the ICAO Council adopted the recommendation of the ICAO Air Navigation
Commission (ANC) that lithium ion batteries, UN 3480, Packing Instruction 965 only, be
forbidden, on an interim basis, as cargo on passenger aircraft. The prohibition does not
apply to lithium ion batteries packed with equipment or lithium ion batteries contained in
equipment, UN 3481, Packing Instruction 966 and Packing Instruction 967 respectively.
The prohibition becomes effective 1 April 2016, as applies to the requirements that lithium
ion batteries, UN 3480, PI 965, to be shipped at a state of charge of no more than 30% of
their rated capacity, and other changes advised through the addendum to the 57th edition
of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) issued in January of this year.
A further addendum to the DGR will be issued later this week to align with the issuance
of Addendum 4 to the ICAO Technical Instructions. The addenda to the DGR are
available from the IATA website at:
http://www.iata.org/whatwedo/cargo/dgr/Pages/download.aspx
The final changes for lithium batteries effective 1 April 2016 are as follows.
Changes to the Provisions for Lithium Batteries
Effective 1 April 2016
1. UN 3480, PI 965, Section IA and IB. Lithium ion cells and batteries must be offered for
transport at a state of charge (SoC) not exceeding 30% of their rated design capacity.
Cells and/or batteries at a SoC of greater than 30% may only be shipped with the
approval of the State of Origin and the State of the Operator under the written
conditions established by those authorities.
UN 3480, PI 965, Section IA and IB are forbidden for carriage on passenger aircraft. All
packages must bear the Cargo Aircraft Only label in addition to the other marks and
labels required by the Regulations.
Note:
Guidance and methodology for determining the rated capacity can be found in the UN
Manual of Tests and Criteria, 5th Revised Edition, Amend. 1 and Amend. 2, Section
38.3.2.3.
2. UN 3480, PI 965, Section II. Lithium ion cells and batteries must be offered for
transport at a state of charge (SoC) not exceeding 30% of their rated design capacity.
All packages prepared in accordance with Section II of PI 965 are forbidden for
carriage on passenger aircraft. All packages must bear the Cargo Aircraft Only label in
addition to the other marks and labels required by the Regulations.
A shipper is not permitted to offer for transport more than one (1) package prepared
according to Section II in any single consignment.
IATA Cargo Page 2 23 February 2016
Not more than one (1) package prepared in accordance with Section II of PI 965 may
be placed into an overpack. When the package is placed in an overpack, the lithium
battery handling label and Cargo Aircraft Only label required by this packing instruction
must either be clearly visible or the label must be affixed on the outside of the overpack
and the overpack must be marked with the word “Overpack”.
3. UN 3090, PI 968, Section II. A shipper is not permitted to present for transport more
than one (1) package prepared according to Section II in any single consignment.
Not more than one (1) package prepared in accordance with Section II of PI 968 may
be placed into an overpack. When the package is placed in an overpack, the lithium
battery handling label and Cargo Aircraft Only label required by this packing instruction
must either be clearly visible or the label must be affixed on the outside of the overpack
and the overpack must be marked with the word “Overpack”.
4. Packages prepared according to Section II of PI 965 and PI 968 must be offered to the
operator separately from other cargo and must not be loaded into a unit load device
(ULD) before being offered to the operator.
You can contact the IATA Dangerous Goods Support team if you have questions or
concerns that may not have been addressed in this document at: dangood@iata.org.

So, there is nothing to be alarmed but suggest to contact the airline before travel to be on the safe side.

Heathrow 13: climate change protesters avoid jail
The activists, dubbed the Heathrow 13, were given sentences of six weeks suspended for 12 months, meaning they would not have to go to prison immediately.
They had been found guilty in January of aggravated trespass and entering a security-restricted area of an aerodrome. They had been warned by district judge Deborah Wright to expect a custodial sentence.

Denver man convicted of disrupting flight crew; faces up to 20 years in prison
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Denver said Joseph Wayne Lynch II was found guilty this week of interference with flight crew members and attendants.
The crime happened August 4, 2015, when Lynch boarded U.S. Airways flight 580 from Philadelphia to Denver. Because he missed his previous connection, the airline upgraded Lynch to first class to make up for the inconvenience.
