(Yes, one of my friends bought a Leaf and installed Solar power system too. He is a winner, both ways. Government should have thought in the same line than coming up with myopic taxing systems from time to time).

Kith and Nis
Surprisingly I see a different picture. Now dont call me I am supporting the government. But I often happen to see what the FB majority fails to see.
A government need tax.
Thus government never discourage the sources of tax.
Liquor, Casino , Tobacco all which are addictive nature are the first choice of any government for tax. Because such addictive make you fail to think logically. Thus it prevent the dictum Higher the price lesser the Buy. So government can increase tax revenue as sales do not drop due to price increase.
I ve already mentioned that the Tax paid by Lion Brewery is almost equal to the total revenue of Bigger NBFI PLC.N
Now Regarding Nissan Leaf
Ok government need continuous flow of Tax Income.
Even in this forum when we were having heated arguments during Election one member pointed out that Cheese a basic food is under locked keys in Cargills showroom. He surely voted for Yahapalanaya to eat cheese at a fair price. But few weeks ago an article in Divaina paper said when we buy Cheese for Rs 1000 we eat Rs 800 worth Tax. Now putting tax on Edible things is not nice. Thus any government will naturally move into other ways of collecting tax where no one argue and arouse emotions like Cheese.
So other than addictive government need another form . Vehicles . Vehicles are positioned in our minds as belonging to rich. While the poor masses pay the tax while using vehicles and shut the emotion buttons as vehicle and associated items for vehicles like Petrol and Diesel belong to Rich.
Thus when you are buying vehicles you pay tax. When you pump fuel you pay tax.
Unfortunately if one buy a electric car and if they are not taxed and if he charge the vehicle using solar he pay no tax. If this trend continue how can government pay its Jumbost Jumbo cabinet? (That's for FB lovers). But really how can government pay for Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Road constructions etc ?
FB can change a Government but cannot sustain a Government. That is called Political Instability.
Therefore FB lovers who just share dumb posts , please use your brains now.

(Once someone told me that Inland Revenue department have less than 100,000 income tax files of individuals.Making everybody employed / earning above the age of 18 filing their income tax return papers a mandatory will give government more air to breath).

To be fair to him not many people wanted buy Leafs before 2015.
I'm sure things will change again but dont know when.

* I see FM did not directly address some issues, but indirectly just justified his
decision.
* The interview panel was kind of on a attack mode . So FM went defensive
( also being a politician but a human)
* At the same time there are some truths in what FM says. ( some I cannot agree , some I can).
This car issue , one have to also look from congestion side and import balance side.
Other side is jacking up car price so average cannot buy.
Well one thing we all need to accept is one one cannot satisfy all people .
I am not defending or attacking FM on this Car matter.
It a sensitive issue if one looks from a country perspective. On the other hand ...

To be more accurate not many wanted to buy it before few months ago. Same with hybrids, it took a long time to catch on and early adopters got the benefit.
On the leaf, realistically, I doubt it will do even 150km with traffic, AC and other things. Wonder how the battery efficiency be in few years time in Sri Lanka. Will it have charging problems? Is this sold by the agents? Don't think so. Most of the leafs in SL were imported from UK. Are they ok to use in local conditions?
Now people have to spend time on charging. Pulling the wires and leaving it for hours at home. Unless you have solar power and time of use tariff it is going to be expensive.
If you are looking for quick charging, still it takes more time than filling up petrol. With increased number of cars, will there be enough slots for many cars to charge at the same time or do you have to wait for hours? Where do these places get their power from? If from the national grid, do we produce enough to meet the demand. specially during the day?
Have people considered the battery replacement cost? I don't think so. Is it viable if you take all these factors?
What's the price of a tesla after the tax increase?

Are you against FM decision or for it or in the middle?
ps :Sorry no time to watch all the videos.
I will tell you one thing directly. Sri Lanka's public transportation system is horrible.
( with comfort and hassle). It has to be improved massively. I am 100% for it.
Also road network, pollution and congestion need to be imporved.
It public transport was improved with comforts/affordability, some of the people wanting to buy Cars may find it cheaper to save that money and let some else drive for them. ( gives peace of mind too) It solves many issues.
I like riding in public transport in countries where there is good easy access and will be not be hassled. In the country I am in right now, 98% of time I get a seat and buses have safety and comfort.
If you look at Singapore, almost no cars are there in the city except Taxi, Buses and Metro.

Even I thought to buy an echo friendly car..Now im not in the position to buy.
There r lot of ppl like me stuck on that.
*If they unable to do,why they have given the hopes???
*Salary-They have told that 10,000(2000by MR,8000by MS) attach to Basic salary,
but what did they do???
these are the very few things that i feel directly ,but there are more and more indirectly...

As for the car promise, this year car imports have increased drastically. Maybe enough imports for around 3 years done this year alone and we know the consequences. I think this will curb that impact to some extent.
It also shows that even without much intervention there was something that made people to increasingly buy cars. So yes, many families have in fact bought cars.

So do u have any idea of the plan they have at right now regarding increase of Buses or Metro,I read some article regarding open an air craft service to provide transport facility..they have missed it,we have already that service in Sri Lanka.I normally use it.
No need to open an new one,
Try https://www.helitours.lk/rate.html
Need it increase and enhance and not to open new.
