Food and Beverages
1. I said FMCG will have a good time as disposable income of Sri Lankans went up as a result of petrol price reduction and salary hikes and the results proved that.
2. There were statements from Samll that SL will be able export chicken to Middle East. SLS pointed the prices of Chicken in Middle East. Even egg prices were mentioned during this period of BFL discussion.
3. During political up beat one good member ( can't remember the name and sorry for that) stated in SL, Cheese is kept in locked racks. He genuinely believed that when Yahapalanaya gain power Cheese will be cheap.
4. Yesterday FM and today Venerable Athuraliye Rathana thero are jubilant on removing fertilizer subsidy.
Being a person with Research oriented mind set I could not do a survey based on secondary data. But today I happen to evaluate the food prices .

What prompted me to do this simple research is Ravi K's statement that its worthwhile to import rice. (Mind you is FM saying so when dollar is sky rocketing. )
I selected 11 countries and surprisingly these are the findings.

Re: Food and Beverages
Just for stats accuracy ( academic puposes), know that the numbers used by that site is totally off in most cases. Am not distracting your good post but making a academic point.
Below are real numbers in some countries at present
For example :
Dubai :
I see 2.5 kg of Chicken breast ( Saera brand) is on sale at 20 AED !!!
Thats Rs 778 for 2.5 kg . Rs 311 for 1 KG of chicken breast !!!
Jasmine rice ( a very fragrant , quality and tasty rice imported from Thailand little similar to Basmathi) is Rs 120 for 1 kg in Dubai. Regulr white should be half that price on sale.
Singapore
Jasmine Rice 5 KG is about 7.5 singapore dollar ( Rs 150 per Kg)
( note regular white rice will be much cheaper)
USA:
Regular white rice : 1 lbs is about $0.5 ( that about $1 for 1 kg)
All the above numbers are actual I can testify.
I mentioned these as it will show the reality/disparity of number shown on that website and actual cases ( ofcouse non sale price can be higher and will differ from super market to super market in those countries

I too agree with the limitations of this simple secondary data based research...

Re: Food and Beverages
If you carefully look at Sri Lanka in the second world map, it shines in red a midst green coloured countries.
How I understand this is " The more man live the more vulnerable him to cancer" .
Canadians are not rice eaters like us at SL.. Yet they record highest cancer.
