Dec 06, 2017 1
ECONOMYNEXT – China Machinery Engineering Corporation is to build a 400MW natural gas power plant in Sri Lanka’s southern Hambantota industrial zone, a government spokesman said.
The project will be implemented under a partnership between the state power utility Ceylon Electricity Board and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) which is nominated by the Government of China.
The cabinet of ministers this week approved the proposal by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs.
The power plant will provide electricity to the industrial zone to be established in Hambantota also by Chinese investors.
